Misinformation about bully breeds is rampant. Statistics can be misleading and even incorrect as many decisions, such as shelter labeling are often just based on personal perception, not actual science., which is why many shelters around the country are dropping breed labeling. For instance, according to a study released by The Veterinary Journal, “found that adoptable dogs in shelters and rescues are misidentified at least 75% of the time when shelter staff and volunteers rely on appearance alone to determine a dog’s breed.” Once these dog listings were dropped, adoption rates increased.
Why is that? It’s because we have misperceptions of different dog breeds. Dog behavior is very dependent on the owner and breeder. Is the owner prepared for a dog? Was the breeder trustworthy and caring? What type of environment did the puppy grow up in? All of these factor into a dog’s behavior, no matter what type of dog breed they are.
We here at Bully-Hub want to provide connections between trustworthy breeders and responsible, loving dog seekers. We’ve focused on bully breeds because in the past, they’ve been discriminated against, but are no less deserving of love. Please consider providing a loving forever home to one of these pets.
